Tarot cards trace back to the mid-15th century and began as a card game that gradually evolved into a system of divination with a defined structure of archetypes. Eventually additional systems arose like the Lenormand and Kipper with their own structures and today there is a vast array of decks available; both iterations of these systems but also plenty of novel formats exist in virtually every conceivable theme.

Many books are available on the subject's history and the various ways one may utilize the cards. In general a question is asked and a series of cards are drawn with an answer being interpreted by the reader's associations to the symbols and archetypes depicted on the cards.
